Joining an established, purpose-driven national organisation entering an important period of growth, you will help identify and progress potential business transition and acquisition opportunities across a highly regulated services environment.
This is not traditional transactional sales. There are no hard-sell conversations.
Instead, you will engage business owners and senior decision-makers, understand their circumstances and future plans, and create the trust needed to explore whether there is a genuine opportunity to work together.
As the COO describes it: “It is relationship selling. It’s not sales sales. It is about being able to listen.”
For many of the people you will engage, their business represents years of hard work, deeply established customer relationships and strong connections with their employees and communities. Your role is to understand what matters to them, recognise when the timing may be right and help progress meaningful commercial conversations.
Why this role?
- $90,000–$110,000 + super
- Brisbane based hybrid role – 2/3
- Newly created position working closely with the COO
- Join an established and growing national organisation
- Work from an existing pipeline and identified target market
- Relationship-led business development rather than aggressive transactional selling
- Engage directly with business owners, CEOs and senior decision-makers
- Opportunity to contribute to a significant growth strategy
- Strong internal support, established market intelligence and existing prospect information
- Develop exposure to business acquisitions and commercial transitions
- Purpose-driven environment where people remain central to commercial decisions
- Collaborative and experienced leadership team
- 9-month fixed-term contract with potential future opportunities based on business requirements and performance
There is already an established target market and previous engagement with a number of organisations, giving you a strong platform from which to begin.
Your role will involve re-engaging existing contacts, initiating new conversations, building relationships and understanding where each organisation may be in its thinking. You will conduct discovery conversations, identify genuine commercial opportunities and progress those relationships to the point where senior leaders can become involved.
You will not be expected to undertake formal due diligence or manage the financial and legal transaction yourself. Your strength will be creating the opportunity, qualifying it and ensuring the right conversations happen at the right time.
Key responsibilities
In this role, you will:
- Re-engage existing prospects and develop new business opportunities
- Build trusted relationships with business owners, CEOs and senior decision-makers
- Conduct consultative discovery conversations to understand each organisation’s circumstances, priorities and future plans
- Identify and qualify potential transition and acquisition opportunities
- Manage a structured pipeline of prospects at different stages
- Develop and maintain regular follow-up with longer-term opportunities
- Tailor conversations and messaging to suit the individual organisation and stakeholder
- Present a compelling, values-led commercial proposition

- Prepare concise briefing information and handover notes
- Maintain accurate CRM and pipeline information
- Monitor activity, opportunities and conversion across the pipeline
- Work closely with internal stakeholders as opportunities progress
- Contribute to the ongoing development of outreach strategies and messaging
Your industry background is less important than how you sell.
You may come from media, advertising, travel, professional services, recruitment, financial services, healthcare, technology, insurance or another service-based B2B environment.
What matters is that you know how to develop relationships rather than simply push a product.
You will ask good questions, listen carefully and understand that the strongest commercial outcome may take several conversations to develop.
You will be comfortable initiating contact and progressing opportunities, but equally comfortable slowing the conversation down when the situation requires it.
You will bring:
- Demonstrated experience in B2B business development, relationship management or a similar commercially focused role
- Ideally 4–5+ years’ experience within a consultative sales or service-based environment
- Proven ability to build relationships with business owners and senior decision-makers
- Strong questioning, listening and discovery skills
- High emotional intelligence and strong interpersonal skills
- Commercial acumen and the ability to identify genuine business opportunities
- Confidence communicating with CEOs, executives and senior stakeholders
- Strong organisation, follow-up and pipeline management skills
- Ability to manage multiple relationships at different stages
- Experience working to activity, pipeline and conversion expectations
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to tailor your communication style to different people and situations
- A genuine interest in working within a purpose-driven organisation
- The ability to work independently while remaining highly collaborative
The right person may simply be an excellent relationship-based salesperson who understands how to uncover a need, position a solution and build enough trust to progress a significant commercial conversation.
The Environment
You will be joining a collaborative organisation where strong commercial performance and positive customer outcomes are equally important.
The role will work closely with an experienced COO who will provide significant support as you learn the organisation, its proposition and the nuances of the market.
For this reason, being Brisbane based and spending regular time in the office will be important, particularly during your initial onboarding.
The organisation operates a hybrid working model, with much of the external relationship development conducted through phone, email and video meetings.
The successful person will be commercially driven, curious and confident, but they will also have the emotional intelligence to recognise that not every conversation should feel like a sales conversation.
If you are looking for a Business Development opportunity where listening, relationship building and commercial outcomes genuinely go hand in hand, we would love to hear from you.
