How to Write a Cover Letter

When it comes to writing a cover letter, this is your opportunity to sell yourself to the organization you're looking to join. With potentially hundreds if not thousands of candidates applying for their dream jobs, a great cover letter will help you stand out from the crowd. There are plenty of simple templates on the internet, but we wanted to give you some tips on how to ensure your cover letter will help your applications.

Tip #1 - Explain your experience in detail.

Everyone's resume should have a list of key responsibilities they've performed during their previous roles. However, the cover letter is an opportunity to explain those duties in more detail. Choose the role that you believe is the most beneficial experience for the one you're applying for and explain it in detail. Talk about your experience in managing different customer service situations, your experience in meeting strict deadlines or sales targets, your experience in leading teams etc. This will help you stand out as the right candidate for the role you're applying for.

Tip #2 - Introduce yourself.

A cover letter is a tool that can show some of your personality to potential hiring managers. The letter should be professional but talk about your aspirations and goals within the organization you're applying for. Talking about your previous experience is always important but let the hiring manager know your intentions within the organization. Tell them if you're looking to improve your sales skills, climb the corporate ladder or develop leadership skills etc. Companies not only want excellent employees but motivated ones.

Remember, not every role suits the same cover letter. Make sure you're customizing the cover letter to suit the role you're applying for.
