This candidate is a highly experienced Mechanical Engineer and Senior Project Manager with over 20 years in the industry, including 15 years within the Australian market. He presented with a confident and engaging style during his behavioural interview, demonstrating both technical depth and strong leadership capability through well-articulated and relevant examples.
He has led end-to-end delivery of complex, multidisciplinary infrastructure projects across a range of sectors, including Waste & Environmental Services, Mining, Utilities, Renewables, Public Infrastructure, and Engineering Consulting. His project portfolio includes managing large-scale efforts—most notably a $650 million surface package as part of a $1.2 billion project—where he oversaw 24 procurement packages, 30 direct reports in the PMO, and hundreds of on-site personnel, including the design and construction of core infrastructure such as rail, materials handling systems, and accommodation camps.
With strong capability in both office-based and site-based leadership, he described the importance of staying close to the action—attending toolbox and prestart meetings weekly to foster team cohesion, promote safety, and maintain visibility on project progress. His leadership style is participative and consensus-driven, yet decisive when needed. He prioritises coaching and collaboration to drive high performance and team alignment.
His hands-on project management approach includes deep involvement in feasibility studies, business case preparation, procurement, and regulatory approvals. He’s well-versed in navigating complex stakeholder environments and has experience working with regulatory bodies both in South Africa and Australia, including recent engagement with the EPA to resolve stalled approvals.
He has demonstrated strong proficiency in managing multiple concurrent projects (valued between $5M–$20M), ensuring alignment with critical path timelines, budgets, and executive expectations. He is confident in reporting, forecasting, and schedule tracking, applying detailed oversight before communicating outcomes to senior stakeholders. His operational cadence includes regular team check-ins to ensure alignment with broader goals and timelines.
Academically, he has written papers on PMBOK methodology during his master’s studies and is highly proficient across Microsoft tools, enterprise systems, and bespoke reporting platforms.
With a strong mix of technical, strategic, and leadership experience, he brings high motivation and a proven ability to deliver major infrastructure outcomes across dynamic, high-risk, and evolving environments.
