Our client is the largest integrated construction materials company in Australia, producing and selling a broad range of construction materials, including quarry products, cement, concrete, asphalt and recycled materials.  Employing circa 9,100 employees and contractors nationally, their extensive footprint includes some 357 operating sites nationally.
  
Located in Port Melbourne, today they are seeking to appoint a Head of Logistics and Mobile Assets (3,000 HRV assets and 1000 Light Vehicles) to establish standards and guardrails, drive reliability and optimisation of core assets.  Your purpose is to optimise and integrate a Logistics Heavy and Light Vehicle Centre of Excellence across their national and multi-site operation – one that maximises  reliability, asset utilisation and minimises Cost per Unit.   Reporting into the Head of Assets and Capital Projects  you are charged with proactively identifying best in class systems and processes that result in the maximising their resources & significant asset investments. 
  
You will take a proactive leadership approach, working in collaboration with the Head of H&S, the Head of Procurement, Finance and other Heads of Peers, as you continue to build a best in class operation, whilst also coaching and mentoring your national leadership team of 4:  1. Performance Manager, 1x Compliance Manager, 1x Heavy Vehicle Road Asset Manager and 1x Light Vehicle Asset Manager and their respective teams. 
  
The national logistics footprint has been established, so this is an opportunity for a talented Strategic and Proactive Logistics Manager to continue  to refine and improve the how, and proactively support the successful delivery of our clients’ mobile assets divisional goals in a standardised way to drive economic efficiency.
   
Your key duties and responsibilities will include:

  • Overseeing asset replacement plans
  • Compliance to NHVR legislation
  • Reliability and Optimisation Improvements
  • Mobile Asset utilisation
  • 3rd party Contract and Rate Reviews
  • CO2 emission reduction– identifying options for Light and heavy vehicle contribution to
  • Maintenance of policies in conjunction with P&C
  Leadership
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple departments/s and improvement projects, preparing short and long term goals focusing on company KPI's (CPU / average turns / average carted distance / average load size / truck availability)to underpin mobile asset availability and optimistaion driving cost efficiency
  • Oversee asset performance and utilisation control groups and develop and maintain scheduling and delivery for their national fleets
Standardisation
  • The creation of best in class process standardisations for their asset maintenance programs, ensuring robust and effective frameworks are designed and integrated consistently across sites nationally, maximising resources, safety and utilisation (HRV and LV’s).
Commerciality
  • The utilisation of your advanced analytical skills to support your preference for evidenced based decision making
  • Proactively managing/working with complexity.
  • Supporting the analysis and design of a vendor strategies, working in collaboration with cross functional Heads of, including Head of Procurement & Head of H&S to identify best in class solutions
  • The development of standards – including clear measurement of upstream throughput and productivity
Continuous Improvement
  • Proactively manage projects that enhance organisational capability and responsiveness, collaborating with operational managers to continuously improve logistics processes, systems and policies, maximising asset utilisation
  • The design, integration and compliance management of best in class fleet maintenance schedules to support production availability
Governance, Financial Management and Reporting
  • Maintain and enhance policies, processes, practices and standards to achieve a consistent approach, one that achieves compliance to their national logistics maintenance schedules, (3000 heavy &light vehicles)
  • Ensure proper Governance processes regarding maintenance scheduling and reporting.
  • Provide financial and commercial advice to the business regarding prospective tenders, acquisitions and supplier contracts
What you will bring
  • Strong leadership, including strong negotiating and influencing skills
  • A high degree of analytical expertise
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in a logistics management environment
  • Experience as a Head of Logistics (heavy & light vehicle supply chain), proactively leading multi-site transport & logistics centre of excellence, to maximise on utilisation
  • Experience in the analysis / design of asset reliability and optimisation strategies to find the optimum blend and use of company and 3rd party assets, working in collaboration with the Head of Procurement & Head of H&S to identify best in class solutions
  • Strong Safety focus with a preventative/proactive approach and the ability to manage any OH&S issues to resolution.
  • History of ability to create frameworks and identify best in class standardisation practices to maximise plant throughputs
  • A desire to continually seek efficiency and quality improvements
  • An ability to work autonomously and adapt quickly to changing technical/business priorities;
  • Highly organised and deadline driven.
  • Strong decision-making, negotiation and influencing skills.
  • Project Management and Change management expertise
  • A highly collaborative style/approach, with proven success engaging a wide stakeholder group to drive/deliver significant improvements in asset utilisation and maintenance schedule compliance
  • A high level of customer centricity, with proven success managing stakeholder expectations/needs.
  • Demonstrated experience in leading and driving decision making whilst collaborating with operational leaders to support the standardisation of systems and programs,
  • A high level numerical and analytical skills.
  • Well-structured written and verbal communication skills – ability to develop and present strategy at a CEO / CFO / COO level and Board
  • A consultative hands on approach with a diverse workforce
  • Strong negotiation and influencing skills.
  • A results orientation – with a preference for getting things done!
